All the President’s Enablers-
According to the Washington Post, President Trump has made 1,950 false or misleading statements within a year of his presidency. Politifact.com displayed their Truth O Meter from True, Mostly True, Half True, Mostly False, False and Pants on Fire. Most of Trump’s statements are Half True, False and Mostly False, Although Pants on Fire had a considerable amount too.
Some statements could be mis-information (claiming that the London Embassy decision was made during the Obama administration and not during Bush administration). Others are uttered knowing they are false and repeated (the tax cuts will hurt him). Then there are derogatory statements (recent comment about Africa and Haiti) and his denials. Actually, he doesn’t need to deny what he said because he was echoing the sentiments of his base that got him elected and many Republicans in Congress silently approve such statements.
When confronted about any derogatory remarks, the president denies having said any. He has even denied that it was his voice in the Access Hollywood video. If that were true, why did he apologize after the video came out?
The saddest part is not that the president says something and refutes it, but the administration and Republicans in Congress continue to enable him by not correcting what he said. The news organizations that fact-check, are labelled by the president as Fake News.
We are thankful to some brave Republicans who have stood up to him, but the majority definitely put the interest of the party before their country. If the enablers continue supporting this, the president will keep on making false and misleading statements and refuting them when confronted. Is there a Watergate era recording available for this president?
